Beginning Agility
Our six-week Beginning Agility course is designed to introduce your dog to each of the
individual agility obstacles with safety, fun, and competitive excellence in mind.
All work is on-lead, and no previous obedience or agility experience is required. The
classes meet on Thursday nights from 7 - 8 PM and from 8:30 - 9:30 PM. The fee for the
course is $130. Beginning Agility is held twice per year, beginning in January
and June. Printable

1 Agility
This eight-week course focuses on distance work on obstacles and learning to sequence
smoothly from one obstacle to the next. In Intermediate 1 Agility, students learn to give
timely commands, to provide consistent and smooth body cues, and to develop teamwork with
their dogs. Handlers also develop the ability to switch smoothly from handling their dogs
off one side to handling off the other in the middle of a sequence.
To enroll in Intermediate 1 Agility, your dog must have successfully
completed our Beginning Agility course or have proven his ability to perform each of the
agility obstacles through a private lesson with a member of our staff. All sequencing is
performed off-lead, therefore, your dog also must be able to sit, stay, down, and come on
command, off-lead with a variety of distractions present.
Even if you have already started training obstacles on your own or
with another training organization, we almost always require that you start your training at
FlashPaws with the Beginning Agility class, so you will have the same foundation as the
other students in the Intermediate class.
Intermediate classes meet on Thursday nights from 7 - 8 PM and from
8:30 - 9:30 PM. The fee for the course is $175. Intermediate 1 Agility is offered twice
per year, starting around February and September. Printable

On the last night of Intermediate class, students run a simple
course to assess their readiness to progress to the next level.
Intermediate 2 Agility
This six-week course follows the Intermediate Agility class and provides additional
practice on longer and increasingly complex sequences. On the last night of Intermediate 2 class, students run a simple
course to assess their readiness to progress to the next level. Those who are most ready
to advance are offered available slots in the Starters/Novice Competition Agility classes.
Some handlers who are ready will be placed on a waiting list until additional spaces open
up. Handlers who are not ready will need to repeat Intermediate Agility and/or
Intermediate 2 Agility. Reasons for repeating may include obedience deficiencies or
confidence problems on the part of the dog. In other instances, the dog may be doing well
but the handler needs more practice with sequencing.
Intermediate 2 classes meet on Thursday nights from 7 - 8 PM and
from 8:30 - 9:30 PM. The fee for the course is $130. Intermediate 2 is offered twice per
year, starting around April and October. Printable

Competition Agility Classes
Competition Agility classes are ongoing with no beginning or ending date. All of our
competition classes follow a format of Course weeks alternating with Exercise weeks.
On Course weeks, students gain ring experience by running a
regulation agility course. To develop the students ability to formulate handling
strategies, handling options are discussed as the class walks the course together.
Students run the course twice to implement improvements or to experiment with alternative
handling strategies. On Exercise Weeks, students rotate through a series of workstations
designed to strengthen specific dog and handler skills.
The fee for all competition agility classes is $65 per month for a
once-per-week class. The fee for the second dog in your immediate household is $50 and each additional dog is $40 per month.
For all competition agility classes, admission is by permission only
and on a space-available basis. We have found that those who begin their agility training
elsewhere do not have the foundation skills necessary to keep up with those who started at
FlashPaws. Therefore, we generally do not accept new members into competition classes
unless they have completed FlashPaws Intermediate II Agility, or have taken one or more private lessons at FlashPaws. Once you are admitted to competition-level
classes, you are considered a "member." Members receive a monthly newsletter as
well as other benefits of membership.
